By the condensation of tryptamine with appropriate substituted benzaldehyde followed by Pictet-Spengler reaction, a series of 1-aryl-tetrahydro-β-carbo-lines(THβCs)were obtained.After dehydrogenation using sulfur, Pd-C or lead tetraacetate(LTA), these THβCs can give the corresponding β-carbolines(βCs)which exhibit specific binding with rat brain benzodiazepine receptor in vitro.

Some new Schiff bases were synthesized by the condensation of equimolar quantities of salicylaldehyde and 2-amino-5-phenylazo-pyridine or its derivatives in dry benzene⁽¹⁾:Metal complexes of the type ML₂ and M'L₃ where M=Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺, Mn²⁺Pd²⁺, M'=Fe³⁺ and L=different newly synthesized monobasic Schiff bases were prepared in absolute ethanolic medium⁽²⁾ and characterized by elementary analysis, conductance measurements, infrared spectra, electronic spectra, magnetic moments studies.

Two C₂₁-steroids, named amalogenin A amd amaloside A were isolated from the rhizome of Amalocalyx yunnanesis.Their structures were established by analysis on the spectra of NMR including ¹H-¹H cosy, ¹³C-¹H COSY and confirmed by X-ray diffraction.

In the presence of alkali nitrite and carbonate, some nitrobenzenes substituted by strongly electron withdrawing group undergo a self condensation in an aprotic polar sotvent to give symmetrical disubstituted diphenyl ethers in good yields.A possible mechanism is discussed, the nucteophilic aromatic substitution S_NAr and S_RMAr may occur simultaneously.

The title complex [ErY(Gly)₆(H₂O)₄](ClO₄)₆ 5H₂O has been synthesized.Its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction method.The crystal is triclinic with space group P1.The unit cell parameters are as follows:a=11.518(4), b=14.105(7), c=15.530(6)Å, α=96.61(3), β=102.74(3), γ=105.70(3)°, V=2327.7(17)Å³, Z=2, Dc=2.091g/cm³.The structure has been refined to a final R of 0.0785.The crystal is an infinite chain complex, in which four carboxyl groups from glycine molecules bridge the Er(Ⅲ)and Y(Ⅲ) ion, other two carboxyl groups bridge two adjacent Er(Ⅲ)or two Y(Ⅲ)ions.

This paper reports a new chemiluminescence system i.e.luminol-H₂O₂-IO₄^- catalyzed by sulphide ion(S^2-).Based on this catalysis, a newchemiluminescence（CL）method for the determination of trace S^2- is proposed.The detection limit is 0.2μg/L S^2-, the linear dynamic range is 5μg to 100βμg/L S^2- and the variation coefficient at an sulphide concentration of 10μg/L S^2- is 4.5%(n=10).The method has been satisfactory applied to the determination of trace sulphide ion in water.

The bimetallic catalysts prepared from SiO₂-supported Ru-Co, Ru-Fe and Ru-Mo carbonyl clusters exhibited high yields and selectivities towards oxygenates such as C₁-C₅ from CO+H₂, in contrast to the catalysts prepared from homometallic and bimetallic Ru, Ru-Ni, Ru-Rh, Ru-Mn, and Ru-Cr carbonyl clusters.The FTIR investigation revealed that the 1584 cm^-1 species plays an important role in the formation of oxygenates in CO hydrogenation, which is possibly assigned to surface formyl species.

Six new solid complexes of macrocyclic polyether ligand 4'-bromo-5'-nitrobenzo-15-crown-5（L）with trivalent rare earth nitrates having composition of RE（NO₃）₃·L·mCH₃CN·nH₂O（RE=La--Nd, m=n=0, RE=Sm, Bu, m=0, 1, n=1, 4）have been synthesized in acetonitrile or acetone.All the isolated complexes have been characterized by elementary analysis, IR and UV spectra, differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction analysis, molar conductance and measurementa of solubility in some general solventa.It shows that coordination number of the rare earth cation in the complexes of La, Ce, Pr and Nd nitrate is eleven.

A potentiometric study on the complexes of His, Gly-His, ALa-His, Gly-Gly and Gly-Gly-Gly with Zn（Ⅱ）and Cd（Ⅱ）has been reported.Small-scale potentiometric titrations were carried out to determine stabil ity constants of complexes at 25℃ with I=0.10 mol dm^-3（KNO₃）.The computer programs SUPERQUAD were applied for data treatment with satisfactory results.

It has been made certain that thio-and oxy-diacetic acid hydrazides are potential anticancer compounds^[1.2].However, their ability to form complexes with transition metals and the properties of the complexes thus formed have not been studied.Employing a new potential anticancer ligand 1, 2-bis（thioacetic acid hydrazide）ethane prepared in our lab, along with ligands oxydiacetic hydrazide and 1, 2-bis（oxyacetic acid hydrazide）ethane, a series of 11 new first-row transition metal(M=Zn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺)complexes with each of the above three ligands have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses, IR, TG and X-ray powder diffraction.

A new method is proposed to absorb the NOx into an organic compound, 2-octanol.The absorption efficiency reaches up to 96-99%, and the NOx emission level is decreased from 1.0×10⁴-3.0×10⁵ to 60-680ppm.In the absorption process, 2-octanol is preoxidized.And then it is further oxidized into hexanoic acid with nitric acid.In this way, 20% of nitric acid is saved for the same yield of hexanoic acid.

A fluoroimmunoassay method using unlabeled Terbium chelate is described.The principle is similar to that of fluoroimmunoassay method using lanthanide chelate as labels.The procedure is simpte because labeling process is unnecessary.The recovery of HSA and albumin in urine is 107% and 95% respectively.The standard deviation is less than 10%.

A novet toughened epoxy resin was obtained by using a precopotymer of epoxy resin and hydroxy-terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer(HTBN) and amine curing agent.The cured toughened resin has excellent mechanical properties due to the two-phase structure, which has been observed from SEM and TEM.

The LB film of the title complex was prepared by dropping a benzene solution of the title complex on the surface of water subphase at 25±1℃.The film was deposited in Z type on various hydrophilic pretreated substrates of quartz, CaF₂ and electronic conductive glass for different purposes.The π-A curve of the film shows that the cross section per molecule is 125 Å², which indicates that the alkyl chain of the molecule is basically perpendiculal to the surface of the substrate.UV, IR spectra and transmission electronic microscopy of the film were also obtained.

Nine complexes (RC₅H₄)₂Ti(O₂CC₆H₄X)₂ (R=H, CH₃;X=H, o-Cl, o-OH, o-NH₂, o-NHPh) have been conveniently prepared by the reaction of (RC₅H₄)₂TiCl₂ with 2 equiv.sodium salts of corresponding carboxylic acid in aqueous solution containing acetylacetone.The carboxylate ligands in the complexes coordinate to titanium atom in monodentate mode.

It was observed that the p-aminobenzoic acid(PABA) molecules adsorbed on Ag2CO3 colloids exhibited strong SERS effect, the enhancement factor is estimated at 10⁷-10⁸ The mechanism of SERS effect on PABA adsorbed on the colloids was discussed.
